Summer School Driver Education Information

Summer School Driver Education is a six-week course. The course fee cannot be waived for this course.

Registration and Payment

Students can register online in Campus Portal for the Driver Education course. Students may also reach out to their school counselor for help.

Payment Information:

  • The fee for Driver Education is $450 and payment is due upon registration - partial payment is due by April 7 and final payment is due on May 1. To view instructions on how to pay, please click here.
  • Waivers are not accepted for this course. If you need help with payments, please contact your school bookkeeper.
  • Students and families must pay any outstanding fees and fines before registering for this course.

  • May 9 is the last day for students to drop the course and receive a refund. No refunds will be issued after May 9. 

Attendance Policy

Students are allowed two absences. After the second absence, students will be dropped from the class and will not receive a refund. Click here to view the Summer School Attendance Policy.

Permit Information

Students must fully complete the permit process before the first day of Summer School in order to successfully complete the Driver Education course.  

Driver Education Schedule

Driver Education students must complete both summer school sessions. Students will receive their individual schedule on the first day of Summer School.

Illinois Driver's License Requirements

If you are under 18 years old:

  • Take 30 hours of classroom work.

  • If under 30 hours, you will not be eligible for a license. 

  • In person attendance is required.

  • Drive 50 hours with an adult (21 years or older) with a license for at least one year in addition to the Behind the Wheel classroom time.

  • Six hours of driving with a D219 certified instructor.

  • Permit eligibility – need to be ENROLLED in a driver's education course

  • Hold permit for 9 months (276 days)

 

If you are over 18 years old:

  • Over 18-year-olds (17 years old and 3 months plus) can take a six hour online course (not offered by D219) to satisfy the state requirements and school classroom requirements.
  • If you are 17 years old and 3 months plus you do NOT have to be enrolled in a Driver Education course to get a permit, you can simply go to the DMV and do so.
