Expanding Choice and Opportunity for All Students:

Advanced Placement Success at D219

Niles Township High School District 219 is showing incredible growth in Advanced Placement (AP) participation and achievement, reflecting our district’s commitment to academic excellence and opportunity for every student. Over the past few years, student participation in AP courses has grown steadily at both Niles North and Niles West High Schools. Furthermore, the number of AP exams taken in the past five years has more than doubled at D219.

While the overall increases in AP enrollment and number of exams are remarkable, the AP performance by D219 students represents an exceptional level of academic challenge and rigor that prepares them well for the future. This means that students are not only choosing to challenge themselves in the classroom, but they can show measurable academic growth as a result.

A Message from the Superintendent

What an exciting time to be part of Niles Township High School District 219! As we kick off another school year, there are signs of progress everywhere, be it new and improved facilities taking shape, or data that tells us that our students are challenging themselves—and succeeding— like never before. We are well positioned, with some new structures in place, and through strategic planning with our entire education community, to deliver a truly bright future for District 219.

We are providing just a glimpse at the excitement that inspires the path forward at D219. When you read our news and announcements, I hope you will take a moment to not only celebrate this incredible school community, but take pride in the efforts that make D219 a special place to learn, work and grow.

Thank you to everyone who gives their best to D219 every day - our students deserve nothing less.

Tom Moore
Superintendent

Graph shows the increasing number of seniors enrolling in college-level courses.

A record-breaking number of D219 seniors have enrolled in college-level courses in the past few years.

Given that D219 has a far higher percentage of students enrolled in AP courses than the typical Illinois or US high school, the data points to the unwavering commitment of our educators. All teachers, not just those teaching AP courses, help students build on skills and knowledge to succeed in all of their courses. The D219 data is a testament to our teachers and staff who encourage students and believe in them without limits.

Graph shows the number of AP Exams administered and percentage of passing exams.

In 2025, over 80% of D219 students scored a 3 or higher on an AP, significantly outperforming both state and national success rates.

AP represents more than data. It’s about the choice and opportunities, without limits, for D219 students. We look forward to seeing what they do next!

This year’s seniors (Class of 2026) will participate in AP classes in unprecedented numbers. Whether or not they go on to college, their AP experience at D219 will strengthen their confidence, skills and abilities. Our hope for every graduate to choose a path to more possibilities after high school.

What if every student chooses to take at least one AP class during their time at D219? How will students challenge themselves to meet the high expectations of academic rigor? How will they choose to challenge themselves in other ways?

Curriculum Directors

Each academic department across Niles North and Niles West is now led by one curriculum director, ensuring greater alignment, collaboration, and consistency across both campuses. (Fine and Applied Arts will continue to have one director per building to best support the unique needs of those programs.) This supports a more unified vision for teaching and learning at D219!

Grade-Level Assistant Principals

Grade-Level Assistant Principals

D219 was thrilled to kick off the 2025-26 school year by welcoming a dynamic team of new assistant principals at both Niles North and Niles West! Each assistant principal will serve as a dedicated grade-level administrator—working closely with students in their assigned class to build strong relationships, foster a supportive school culture, and ensure every student feels seen and supported.

These leaders wasted no time connecting with students—reaching out via email to introduce themselves and invite freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors to engage with them throughout the year.

This innovative leadership model reflects D219’s deep commitment to student-centered learning, creating positive school experiences, and driving meaningful, data-informed outcomes for all learners.
We’re excited for the year ahead and all the ways these new leaders will make a difference in the lives of our students!

Safety Teams

D219 completed a multi-phase process to restructure the Safety Department and strengthen the positive school culture in our buildings. In addition to insourcing our safety staff, we have increased staff. Niles North and Niles West now each has a safety team supervisor who also provides oversight at Bridges Adult Transition Center and Niles Central.

D219 will continue to research and assess school safety, security, and emergency preparedness for all district buildings and campuses as well as identify strengths and opportunities for improvements. We are pleased to continue our partnership with Per Mar Security Services for special outsourcing needs.

Construction and Facility Upgrades

D219 kicked off major construction projects in March 2025. With significant progress made during the spring and summer, the projects are on track for completion in 2026.

Niles Central High School

A therapeutic public day school, Niles Central serves D219 students who benefit from a personalized learning environment. Currently, the school occupies about 12,600 square feet of the district building. A new, two-story building with 42,500 square feet will be home to Niles Central students and staff next school year.
