D219 News & Updates
August 2025

Reflecting on student and staff success at D219, Superintendent Tom Moore speaks at a national College Board conference.
Advanced Placement Success at D219
Niles Township High School District 219 is showing incredible growth in Advanced Placement (AP) participation and achievement, reflecting our district’s commitment to academic excellence and opportunity for every student. Over the past few years, student participation in AP courses has grown steadily at both Niles North and Niles West High Schools. Furthermore, the number of AP exams taken in the past five years has more than doubled at D219.
While the overall increases in AP enrollment and number of exams are remarkable, the AP performance by D219 students represents an exceptional level of academic challenge and rigor that prepares them well for the future. This means that students are not only choosing to challenge themselves in the classroom, but they can show measurable academic growth as a result.
A Message from the Superintendent
Thank you to everyone who gives their best to D219 every day - our students deserve nothing less.
Tom Moore
Superintendent

A record-breaking number of D219 seniors have enrolled in college-level courses in the past few years.
Given that D219 has a far higher percentage of students enrolled in AP courses than the typical Illinois or US high school, the data points to the unwavering commitment of our educators. All teachers, not just those teaching AP courses, help students build on skills and knowledge to succeed in all of their courses. The D219 data is a testament to our teachers and staff who encourage students and believe in them without limits.

In 2025, over 80% of D219 students scored a 3 or higher on an AP, significantly outperforming both state and national success rates.

This year’s seniors (Class of 2026) will participate in AP classes in unprecedented numbers. Whether or not they go on to college, their AP experience at D219 will strengthen their confidence, skills and abilities. Our hope for every graduate to choose a path to more possibilities after high school.
What if every student chooses to take at least one AP class during their time at D219? How will students challenge themselves to meet the high expectations of academic rigor? How will they choose to challenge themselves in other ways?

Construction and Facility Upgrades
D219 kicked off major construction projects in March 2025. With significant progress made during the spring and summer, the projects are on track for completion in 2026.
Niles Central High School

The building will include 16 instructional rooms, both traditional classrooms and learning labs that support career and technology education. The new Niles Central parking lot will include underground utilities with stormwater management systems, electric vehicle charger stations, permeable and concrete pavers, and more.

Interior renovations of the existing Niles West building total nearly 17,000 square feet. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing upgrades are part of the improvements.
Niles West High School
More than 2,600 students attend Niles West, home of the Wolves. With a three-story addition totalling about 42,000 square-feet, students will have access to new classrooms and a student commons. The addition will house student services, a college and career center, wellness space and an outdoor roof patio. Families and visitors will also benefit from a new guest entrance.
Niles North High School
With the completion of a three-story addition in 2023, Niles North has an award-winning building design. The 2025 interior renovations at the school includes a Digital Media Lab.
