Six students from Niles North High School earned recognition in the 2026 National Council of Teachers of English Achievement Awards in Writing contest, organized by the National Council of Teachers of English. The program recognizes high school students for outstanding writing and includes four levels of distinction: First Class, Superior, Excellent, and Merit.
Student submissions were evaluated by judges from across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, and Taiwan. Entries were reviewed based on expression of ideas, language use, and unique perspective and voice.
The following Niles North students received recognition:

Abby Bullis - Superior
Johnathan Chen - Superior
Kiswa Karim - Superior
Tea Vuckovic - Superior
Yaretzi Perez - Superior
This year, 689 students were nominated for the Achievement Awards in Writing Program from 38 states, Puerto Rico, Washington, D.C., and several countries worldwide.
