District 219 Schools Named to the Advanced Placement School Honor Roll

College Board announced that two District 219 schools have been named to the 2024 Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) School Honor Roll. Niles North High School earned a Silver distinction and Niles West High School earned a Bronze distinction.

The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.

Niles North had 59% of seniors who took at least one AP Exam during high school, 43% of seniors scoring a 3 or higher on at least one AP Exam, and 18% of seniors who took five or more AP Exams.

Niles West had 52% of seniors who took at least one AP Exam during high school, 38% of seniors scoring a 3 or higher on at least one AP Exam, and 18% of seniors who took five or more AP Exams.

District 219 currently offers more than 30 AP classes. In September, D219 announced that AP exam fees are waived for all students enrolled in AP classes in the 2024-25 school year.

“Our teachers and staff have made outstanding efforts to increase access to AP courses in our district,” remarked D219 Superintendent Tom Moore. “We are especially proud of this honor from the College Board because it means that more students are prepared for their pathways after they leave high school.”

College Board’s Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) enables students to pursue college-level studies—with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both—while still in high school. Through AP courses in 38 subjects, each culminating in a challenging exam, students learn to think critically, construct solid arguments, and see many sides of an issue—skills that prepare them for college and beyond.
