After reviewing the annual data for more than 27,000 public high schools, U.S. News and World Report ranked Niles West High School and Niles North High School among the best in the country. Both schools are currently ranked in the top 10 percent of nearly 18,000 high schools in America, based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.

Niles North ranks at 1,242  in the U.S. (up from 1,606 in the 2025 report and 1,851 in 2024). In Illinois, Niles North ranks 59 out of 984 high schools.

Niles West ranks at 1,748 in the U.S. (up from 1,852 in the 2025 report and 2,120 in 2024). In Illinois, Niles West is currently at 77.

“When we factor out charter schools and selective enrollment schools, the performance of D219 schools is even more impressive,” noted D219 Superintendent Tom Moore. “North is ranked at number 43 and West is at number 58 in the state. Both schools have made incredible strides.”

Both high schools have also made strides to broaden access and opportunities in classroom rigor, aligning with the D219 Strategic Plan that outlines academic equity among other priorities. Last school year, Niles Township High School District 219 received recognition from the College Board’s 2025 Advanced Placement Program School Honor Roll.
