As the winter season approaches, we are sharing a reminder to review information about our procedures for severe weather and emergencies that may impact the school day. Please also take time to review your contact information in Campus Parent Account Settings and, if necessary, update your preferences to ensure you receive District notifications.
Emergency Notification Procedures
While in-person student learning is always our priority, there are times when weather conditions or extenuating circumstances make it unsafe for schools to be open. In the event of school closures due to severe weather or emergencies, timely and accurate information will be provided regarding closings, remote (e-learning) days, delays, early dismissals, and other important updates.
Unless D219 sends an announcement through the school notification system, schools will be open and will operate on a normal school day schedule, including Late-Start Wednesdays. Emergency information is available in the following ways:
- District Website: niles219.org
- Emergency Notification System: An automated message via phone, text and/or email
- Social Media @NTHSD219: Facebook and Instagram
School Closings Due to Weather
The district makes decisions about school closings based on several factors, including weather, road, and driving conditions in Niles Township. We also consider the safe functioning of our school buses and buildings, as well as discussions with our sender elementary schools.
For more information on our school closing procedures, please visit our website at https://www.niles219.org/students-families/emergency-info.
We recognize that these decisions may not suit individual circumstances at all times; therefore, we aim to provide clear and timely communications. Parents and caregivers should use their discretion if they believe it is unsafe for their child to attend school. In such cases, please report the student’s excused absence through the school’s Attendance Office or Absence Reporting Line. Please be assured that when making decisions about weather-related schedule changes, D219 balances student safety and student educational needs.
For any questions or assistance, please contact your child’s school administration.
