District 219 named Kathryn Geist as the Director of Special Education at Niles North High School, starting July 1, 2026. The Niles Township High School Board of Education approved the appointment at their March 10, 2026 meeting.

Kate has served as Niles North’s Assistant Director of Special Education for the past 10 years. She began her career at J. Sterling Morton High School District 201, where she spent six years as a school psychologist, working in a specialized program for students with emotional disabilities, and then served as the school’s Special Education Coordinator.
Kate earned a Bachelor of Science in Aviation from Lewis University and an FAA Aircraft Dispatcher License. She spent five years in the aviation industry and continues to draw on skills in organization, communication, and critical decision-making. She holds a Master of Arts in School Leadership with a Director of Special Education endorsement from Concordia University
Through her unique path into education and her previous roles, Kate has developed a deep commitment to supporting students with diverse learning and behavioral needs while partnering closely with staff and families to create meaningful opportunities for growth. She believes strongly in identifying and building on student strengths and empowering students to overcome obstacles, build independence, and reach their full potential. She looks forward to continuing to support inclusive, student-centered learning environments at Niles North.
Kate lives in Elmhurst with her husband and their twin 13-year-old boys. Outside of work, she enjoys cheering them on from the bleachers as they play whichever sport is in season.
