Strategic Plan

Mission

D219 is committed to providing an equitable learning environment that embraces diversity and individual student needs, while preparing students to achieve their full potential as part of our global community.

Vision

Niles Township High School District 219 Board of Education’s Vision Statement for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion is the conscious, deliberate and strategic focus on addressing academic success for all of our students. We are committed to equitable access to resources and supports for students, staff, families, and the larger community regardless of a person’s age, creed or religion, color, disability (mental or physical), ethnicity, immigration status, language acquisition, national origin, race, religion, sex and gender, sexual orientation or socioeconomic status.

  • We define equity as giving everyone what they need to be successful, unlike equality where everyone gets the same.
  • We define diversity as the recognition of the many individuals that make up our school community.
  • We define inclusion as feelings of belonging and proactive acts of acceptance for and towards all races and ethnicities, cultures and social identity groups within our community.

Philosophy

  • Educate all of our students with high expectations with robust college and career ready pathways and educate them to be globally minded, accepting of other viewpoints, experiences, cultures and identities with an empathetic mindset.
  • Ensure D219 is a collaborative, positive space for students and staff to feel heard, seen, valued, challenged and engaged as individuals through clubs, forums and professional learning communities, while establishing shared ownership, trust and accountability.
  • Eliminate the common predictors of D219’s Education Debt by embracing equity within our district and providing academic, social, and emotional supports for students by prioritizing culturally responsive teaching practices, individual identities, and maintaining a school environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
  • Empower administrators to implement equity-based EDI procedures to fairly and equitably distribute EDI practices across the district in support of the Strategic Plan towards the following:
    • Student Growth

    • Learning Climate and Culture

    • Professional Climate and Culture

    • Family and Community Engagement

    • Optimal Facilities

  • Excite and Engage graduates, parents/guardians and teachers/staff to share, spread and motivate us through their stories and journeys as culturally conscious, lifelong learners.

Values

  • We value experiences that enable individuals to exceed expectations.

  • We embrace diversity and will work to eliminate the racial predictability of student achievement.

  • We are committed to employing professional staff members who are culturally competent, reflective of our student body and qualified to advance district initiatives.

  • We value collaboration with partners and stakeholders.

  • We value meeting these commitments in the most fiscally responsible manner.
