High School District 219
James B. Edwards has been named the next Principal of Niles North High School, effective July 1. Edwards has served as Principal of South Elgin High School for the past three years.
“James comes to us with great high school principal experience and will be able to immediately work well with the Niles North community,” said D219 Superintendent Steven Isoye. “He is student-focused and understands the importance of student voice. I look forward to working with him in the years to come.”
Before his service at South Elgin, Edwards was Assistant Principal for Curriculum for three years at Elmwood Park High School. Prior to that, he served Morton West High School for a year as Assistant Principal and as Dean of Students for two years. He served Noble Street Charter School in Chicago in several roles, including as Summer School Principal, College Counselor and as English and Social Science teacher. He taught Social Science for six years at Wells High School in Chicago and was Mock Trial Coordinator. Edwards earned his Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Curriculum Foundations at Chicago State University.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Secondary Education from DePaul University. He is finishing up his doctoral degree in Educational Leadership at Aurora University.
Edwards succeeds Ryan McTague, who was named the new Superintendent of McHenry High School District 156.
