Students Earn 30 Medals at FCCLA State Competition
D219 students recently competed at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) State Leadership Conference and Competition on April and 7 in Springfield, IL. Students competed in one of 28 national Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) Events and Proficiency events. FCCLA is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education. FCCLA has over 190,000 members and over 6,500 chapters from 50 state associations, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The organization has involved more than 10 million youth since its founding in 1945. The theme of this year’s conference was “Leadership: Rated E for Everyone.”
Thirteen Niles West students earned three Most Outstanding Gold medals and ten Silver medals. In the Early Childhood Education events, Susan Audicho and Jennifer Rebollar earned Most Outstanding Gold medal in Children’s Literature Presentation team.
In Culinary Arts events, Leonardo Cruz, Nathan Nguyen, Sienna Scala, Zainab Siddiqui, Tyrese Singleton, and Michael Youkhana earned Silver medals in Food Production Salads. In the STAR Culinary Arts Occupational competition at Kendall College, Leah Steinfeld earned a Silver medal.
In Fashion Events, Liliann Odisho earned a Most Outstanding Gold medal in Semi-Formal Fashion Construction. Valerie Green and Stefany Rusinque earned Silver medals in Semi-Formal Fashion Construction. Maeve McCaffrey earned a Silver medal in Casual Wear Fashion Construction.
Seventeen Niles North students earned 3 Most Outstanding Gold medals, 5 Gold Medals, 10 Silver medals, and 2 Bronze medals. In Culinary Arts events, Karen Tong earned a Most Outstanding Gold medal in Food Production Salads. Grant Lewis, Alan Lipkin, Bruno Prosper, Teju Shah, and Avery Wolf earned Silver medals in Food Production Salads. Skyler Pedrosa earned a Silver medal in Food Production Relish Tray. Matheu Hoegen earned a Gold medal in Fondant Cake Decorating. In the STAR Culinary Arts Occupational competition at Kendall College, Matheu Hoegen and Karen Tong earned a Silver medal and Bruno Kanam earned a Bronze medal.
In Fashion Events, Jessie Nguyen and Maui Pepino earned Most Outstanding Gold medals in Fashion Apparel Display Presentation Team. D.J. Djurovic and Jasmine Nguyen earned Gold medals in Fashion Apparel Display Presentation Team. Allyshia Duberstein earned a Bronze medal in Semi-Formal Fashion Construction. Eli Gayton, Umama Amin earned Gold Medals in Professional Career Image. Aimee Meza and Mia Garcia earned Silver Medals in Professional Career Image.
