Science Olympiad Team Earns Second at Regionals

The Niles West Science Olympiad team earned second place at the Regional competition held February 27 at New Trier High School. The team’s second place finish earned them the right to compete at the State contest held April 10 at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.

Medals were awarded to:  Josh Lee and Urveel Shah, Gold, Ecology; Ben Pichler and Kara Mui, Silver, Astronomy; Josh Lee and Fariha Syed, Silver, Astronomy; Liz Lotsof and Erin Balke, Silver, Fossils; Liz Lotsof and Kara Mui, Bronze, Disease Detectives; Daniel Langer, Eric Krikorian and Urveel Shah, Bronze, Experimental Design; Ben Pichler and Nate Pichler, Bronze, Dynamic Planet; and Erin Balke, Jeremy Metz, Steve Chang and Danny Lohan, Bronze, Egg-o-naut.

Other medals were earned by:  Nate Pichler and Jeremy Metz for It’s About Time; Liz Lotsof and Erin Balke for Ornithology; Fariha Syed, Erin Balke and Nathan Kerr for Picture This; Josh Lee and Kara Mui for Forensics; Liz Lotsof and Ben Pichler for Technical Problem Solving; and Daniel Langer and Eric Krikorian for Environmental Chem.

Other members who contributed to the team’s success:  Michael Radko, Sheryl Cherian, Jenny Lee, Mitch Balke, Rishy Chacko, Lucy Chang, Zoya Momin, Shana Nissan and Brinda Shah.
