North Comm Students Successful at Seattle Convention

From April 6 to 8, 22 Niles North students from the North Star news production and broadcasting staff and the SAGA yearbook staff represented the Communications Department as they traveled to Seattle, Washington for the Spring Journalism Education Association (JEA) Convention.

 

The Journalism Education Association supports free and responsible scholastic journalism by providing resources and educational opportunities, by promoting professionalism, by encouraging and rewarding student excellence and teacher achievement, and by fostering an atmosphere which encompasses diversity yet builds unity. There, the students participated in hands-on workshops, training sessions, and competed against approximately 4,000 journalism students from around the country. 

 

Students who participated in the conference and competition include: Brittany Abrams, Stephanie Brand, Alexis Brander, Alen Djencic, Lena Folke, Ally General, Ysabel Gonzales, Gina Guiardelli, Jessica Hansen, Olivia Klafta, Talia Kramer, Benjamin Lipka, Gustavo Morales, Samuel Mwakasisi, Joseph Nagler, Lauren Rosenfeld, Samuel Schein, Dhvani Shah, Danielle Shaykin,  Ethan Soo, Ryan Staine, and Mia Torres.

 

The following students were honored with special recognition in conference competitions:

Senior, Benjamin Lipka earned an Excellent in News Writing. Junior, Stephanie Brand earned an Excellent in Yearbook Copy and Captions. Senior, Samuel Shein earned Honorable Mention in News Writing. Junior, Lena Folke earned an Honorable Mention in Yearbook Copy and Captions.
