D219 Board Appoints Interim Assistant Principal at Niles North, Security Director at Niles West

Niles North High School Director of Deans Marlon Felton has been named Interim Assistant Principal of Operations at the school, effective April 3. The Niles Township High School District 219 Board of Education approved the appointment at its March 14 meeting. Current Assistant Principal Keith Robinson is resigning from the position to become Associate Principal for Educational Services at Evanston Township High School.

Felton has served Niles North in the Dean’s office since the 2006-07 school year. He started in the district as a Special Education teacher in 2004. He has also served the school as head wrestling coach and was the D219’s summer school principal in 2016.

Felton earned his Bachelor of Arts in Special Education/High Incidence from Northern Illinois University in 2003 and Master of Arts in Education/School Leadership from Concordia University in 2006.

The Board also appointed Michael Pechter as Niles West’s next Security Director. Pechter will succeed Brent Fowler, who is retiring at the end of the school year. Pechter’s official start date is July 1, but he will be shadowing Fowler starting in mid-May.

Pechter is currently the Deputy Police Chief for the Village of Skokie, a position he has served since 2011. Pechter has a long and distinguished career at the village since he started working for the Skokie Police Department in 1989 as a uniformed officer. He has served as police commander, traffic unit supervisor, sergeant, investigator and certified juvenile officer, and as a member of the SWAT Team, among other responsibilities.

Pechter was the facility project coordinator for the department’s new headquarters building, and he led the research and formulated recommendations for the creation of the department’s canine unit. He has won a long list of awards, including the Chief’s Award of Valor, conferred by the Skokie Police Department, and the Valor Award, conferred by the Hundred Club of Cook County.

Pechter began his law enforcement career in the Cook County Sheriff’s Department, which he joined in 1986. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Eastern Illinois University.

Fowler retires after serving as Security Director of Niles West since 2006.
